• 2 dessert apples 
  • 2 pears
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 orange 
  • 2 kiwi fruit 
  • 1 pomegranate
  • 225g/ 8oz strawberries  

For the syrup 

  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 50g/2oz/ΒΌ cup superfine sugar 
  • 5 tbsp Marsala or a sweet liqueur 


Put the lemon juice, sugar, and Marsala or liqueur in a small pan over a low heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved. Bring to the boil, then remove from the heat and leave to cool

To prepare the fruit, cut it into small, even-sized pieces. Core and chop the apples and pears, removing the skin only if it is tough. Place in a bowl and toss whit the lemon juice to stop it from discoloring. Peel and chop the orange and kiwi. Halve the pomegranate and scoop out the seeds. Hull and chop the strawberries 

Put all the fruits in the bowl whit the apples and pears 

Pour the cooled syrup over and stir gently. Cover and chill for several hours is possible before serving
